Certified Child Life Specialist
Children’s Disaster Relief Certified Responder • Paralympic World Cup Champion & Team Captain for Team USA • Bachelor of Arts (Communications) & Bachelor of Sciences (Health Science)
Catherine Renick, better known by Kat, began her career as Certified Child Life Specialist in 2016. Through her career and clinical rotations, Kat gained invaluable experience from neonatal to young adult. However, her passions lie in the clinical areas of Burn, Cystic Fibrosis, Disordered Eating, Refugees, and vulnerable youth.
Kat’s path to Child Life was unconventional, to say the least. From a young age, Kat aspired to become a collegiate athlete. That dream was realized at the University of Arizona and the University of South Florida where she was able to compete at the division 1 level in Women’s Soccer-however in 2012, after years of medical testing and invasive procedures, she was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis (MG). MG is a debilitating neuromuscular autoimmune disease that had dream-shattering consequences on her career.
IIn the same year, Kat was also diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. Kat gained first-hand experience of the mental, social, physical, and psychosocial impact chronic illness can have on someone and the value of finding support and empowerment in others. It was through these experiences that she also learned the value of serving others. In the last decade, Kat has invested her life to serving others, professionally as a child life specialist, but also in the community, participating in missions within the United States and internationally. Kat has been an active participant with organizations like Child Life Disaster Relief and Love Is Ministry. In 2015 Kat founded her own nonprofit, The IamMore Foundation, providing resources and services to children and families living with chronic conditions promoting positive self-worth and facilitating adaptable experiences.
